Just some of the feedback we have received about the training that CAN has provided this year. Following on from our success in co-writing the Foundation Degree in Drug and Alcohol Counselling with Leicester University, we have developed a wide range of DANOS mapped training events to meet the needs of people both in the substance use sector and wider social care. I would like to thank all of the trainers at CAN who have contributed to the high quality events we have run.
In addition to participants coming to the CAN training rooms in Northamptonshire, we have worked with a range of organisations to design bespoke training events to help achieve their individual, team and organisational objectives. In order to keep up with demand, we are developing the range of courses to be delivered at venues in Bedfordshire over the next year.

CAN has continued to help companies protect their business and their employees from the destructive effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace. With 40% of the workforce experimenting with illegal drugs and 17 million working days lost to alcohol misuse each year, we have offered practical help that has enabled businesses to reduce their risks.
In the last year we have given confidential advice to national and local businesses on issues such as drug and alcohol testing, policy development and implementation, drink driving, counselling for employees, training for employees and managers and legislation that relates to drugs and alcohol in the workplace.
As dismissing employees with a substance use problem is unlikely to stand up at a tribunal any more, we will continue to help companies support their employees and protect their businesses over the next year.
About DANOS, N.V.Q.s & CAN Courses
The Drug and Alcohol National Occupational Standards (DANOS), specify the standards of performance that people in the drugs and alcohol field should be working to. They also describe the knowledge and skills workers need to perform to the required standard.

Recent achievements have included:
- Design & delivery of a Brief Interventions training package for use with Young Peoples Workers for Cherwell Vale PCT.
- Making a major contribution to the writing of a 4 year Foundation Degree in Counselling Substance Users for Leicester University
- Production of an incremental learning programme in substance use for Connexions Northamptonshire
