Homeless Action Team
This year the maple centre established its framework of housing services, and experienced a very busy time. Over 1,000 people came to the centre for assistance with homelessness, housing issues or benefits and money advice. Of these 487 people were visiting the centre for the first time.
Everyone has a different story to tell and its very rewarding for all concerned when things work out well for those who travel the journey of life but get lost along the way.
Community housing
In this year, CAN community housing in Northampton housed 35 people and of these 24 are still housed in the scheme and are progressing well with resettlement plans.
CAN now operates a rent deposit scheme in both Northampton and Corby. A total of 48 people were housed via this service and to date 98% have retained tenancies.
Street outreach service
The street outreach service dealing with rough sleepers and street drinkers takes a targeted approach to tackling the homelessness. Sometimes people fluctuate between sleeping rough on the street and sleeping rough on a friend's floor. Those who have exhausted all available housing options also sleep rough until reengaging with services.
In this year a total of 45 people, sleeping rough for varying lengths of time, were housed in CAN housing and with other providers.
Please contact CAN Head Office, Carole Jones or Fundraising if you would like to donate any unused clothing, gloves ,scarves or blankets for rough sleepers or if you have house hold items that are suitable for those being re housed.
Many thanks!
