Our message:
Support and Information for those worried or concerned about someone's DRUG or ALCOHOL use.
Why is it important that families receive support?
-
To know that they do not have to suffer in silence
-
They are able to come and talk to somebody in confidence about their situation
-
So that they do not feel isolated
-
They are able to gain more knowledge and understanding around drugs and the effects that they can have
-
Be able to support the person they care for effectively
-
Be able to relieve some stress and anger
What do we provide?
- One to one support
A family member can come and see us to talk about their situation and discuss how spaced could support them. This is a very informal and confidential chat. Somebody may only want to attend once just for some information or reassurance. However some poeple may feel that they need more long - term support.
- Group Support
This is when somebody who has been supporting their family member e.g. son or daughter can meet other people who are in similar situations. Here members are able to get to talk to each other and share experiences.
- Referrals to other agencies
If somebody is not suitable for our service then we will refer them to a service that will be able to offer them what they need.
We also participate in:
Community Events
Interactive Workshops
to help people gain more
knowledge about drugs
and to ask questions
Information Stands
To promote the service
And to give out
Information Leaflets
Schools Work
give parents relevant
information about drugs
and local drug services
A Brief History
There had been some research that had been carried out of drug services in Bedfordshire. The results suggested that there were many services for drug users but a clear lack of support for their families. Therefore Space d was commissioned by B:DAT (Bedfordshire Drug and Alcohol Team).
It was set up as a partnership project between CAN and Addaction in 2004.
