Bedfordshire

Plan B is a free drug and alcohol service for young people aged 13-19 in Bedfordshire (Excluding Luton). In 2005 we merged with CAN.

PLAN B’s aim is to provide information, education, advice and treatment to young people in relation to drug, solvent and alcohol use as well as related issues.

We offer the following;

  • Confidential information, education and harm reduction advice around drug, alcohol or solvent use.
  • Referral into counselling or treatment. PLAN B has an accredited counsellor and nurse practitioner within the service.
  • Health Screenings by our Nurse Practitioner
  • Auricular Acupuncture
  • Sleep Tea and Lung Tea **
  • Relapse work and Aftercare
  • Gambling Support alongside existing drug and alcohol issues.
  • Group information, education and harm reduction sessions. Provided on site or on request at various outreach venues throughout Bedfordshire including; Schools; Hostels; Children’s homes; Youth Clubs, etc…
  • Sexual Health Advice. PLAN B recognises that drug use and sexual health are often interlinked and therefore provides basic sexual health advice to clients.  Condoms are provided for PLAN B clients and at outreach venues.  This work is not funded and we recommend that young people in need of solely sexual health advice are signposted to sexual health clinics.
  • Regular drop-ins within Hostels. Specific information sessions can be requested within these settings.  Condoms, leaflets, sleep tea and lung tea are provided within the drop-in.
  • Joint work with Youth Offending Service ***
  • Joint work with schools providing information for staff; regular education sessions for young people and 1:1 sessions.
  • Advice for professionals concerned about a young person and appropriateness of referral.
  • Professionals Training Sessions raising drug, solvent and alcohol awareness as well as referral route into PLAN B.

NB.  When requesting a 1:1 or group session in venues not already attended by PLAN B please ensure that confidentiality is respected.  Rooms should be private and sessions uninterrupted.

**    Sleep Tea and Lung Tea can be mistaken for Cannabis although both teas have distinctive smells.  We   provide the tea in clearly labelled transparent bags to avoid confusion.  Should you have any queries or concerns please contact a PLAN B staff member immediately.

*** Work undertaken with a young person referred by the YOT is confidential.  PLAN B will not discuss the contents of these sessions.  However we will provide reports detailing attendance.  Any further information will need to be discussed with the young person
