Volunteering at CAN
CAN believes that volunteers have a valuable role to play within the organisation and that in return we will provide experiences that help to develop skills and knowledge through working with our client group.
- Volunteers work under the direction and supervision of a paid member of staff, matched to their skills, experience and qualification. Volunteers will not be able to become counsellors unless they have an existing counselling qualification.
- Volunteers are covered in their work by the same operational policies as any staff member and must agree to operate within the philosophy and Policies of CAN.
- Volunteers are entitled to claim an allowance to cover some of their travel costs and other expenses which may be incurred
For some roles it will be necessary for volunteers to participate in our training programme. At present we have limited capacity as regards space or staff to train and individually supervise any additional workers – particularly those wishing to acquire counselling experience. On the other hand, there are immediate volunteer openings for admin workers, complementary therapists, fundraisers and support staff in the Homelessness Team.
