Information for Clients

Any information given to our staff is confidential within our agency, unless we feel there is a risk of significant harm to you or someone else.

However, if you want us to speak to someone on your behalf (e.g. health services, partner, family member, social worker, Probation officer, Housing and benefits agency etc..) we will only do so if you have signed a release of information form.

Any break of confidentiality will not be as the result of an individual worker's decision. It will only occur a a result of consultation with senior staff.

If you have any queries about confidentiality please discuss them with a member of staff.

We will take appropriate action in any instance of drug dealing on our premises.

Data protection

All information held by CAN is in accordance with the Data Protection Act. Service Users may have access to their records by arrangement with the relevant Area Manager. A request must be made in writing before a copy of a file can be released. CAN reserves the right to make a charge for producing photocopies. If a file copy is supplied it becomes the responsibility of the individual service user and CAN will not be held responsible for any break of confidentiality arising from loss or unsafe keeping of the file. The service user will be asked to sign a letter accepting this fact.

You have a right;

  • To a high quality service from qualified and experienced workers.
  • To be treated fairly. This means that we listen and are patient, that we hear you out.
  • To be treated as an individual in a way that is right for you.
  • To be treated with respect, dignity and confidentiality. Any circumstances in which information will be divulged to others will be explained to you beforehand.
  • To be as safe and free from harm as possible when on our premises.
  • If you are not happy with the service you have received, please pick up a Complaints Procedure Leaflet from the reception area of the CAN office.

Your responsibilities;

  • We can work more effectively with you to achieve your goals if you are not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. We therefore ask that you arrive sober and drug free.
  • You may not use alcohol or illegal substances on our premises.
  • We expect you to observe the rules that relate to our services such as;
    • Not carrying offensive weapons
    • Not damaging property or harming staff
    • Not stealing from offices, staff or other clients
    • Complying with any reasonable request
  • Please respect others regardless of race, gender, age, sexuality, religion, or other faiths and beliefs, health status or disability.
  • We expect you to respect others by not verbally or physically intimidating or harassing them.
  • To be responsible for your own belongings.
