About Us

CAN is an independent regional agency, first established in 1972. CAN provides a range of drug, alcohol and homelessness services throughout Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire. Our service is founded on the expertise that we have developed through experience, basing our work on best practice and developing effective partnerships.

CAN now employs 122 staff (March 2005), and has 17 Volunteers. This represents a 20% increase in employed staff in the last 12 months.

Key Developments this last financial year:

  • The development of our IT Systems to provide a Wide Area Network and Citrix Metaframe system. This allows CAN employees the ability to access their email and documents from any CAN branch office and remote location throughout Northamptonshire. This will be extended to Luton and Bedfordshire in the coming year
  • The successful tender to look at a merger with a small charity in Bedford Plan-B which provides drug services to
    Young People throughout Bedfordshire
  • A team of Aftercare workers delivering services as part of the Drug Intervention Programme
  • An increase in supported housing in Corby through partnership with Leicester Housing Association
  • The appointment of an additional Resettlement Co-ordinator
  • Securing funding through a private business, Scott Bader and Children in Need to continue and expand our work with the children of substance using parents
  • The development of new groupwork initiatives in Luton and Bedford and the delivery of the Crack programme in other
    agencies
